1959 Press Photo Diane Marie Gargon, 2, sees Christmas tree for first time

Diane Marie Garton, 2, gazes wonderingly at the first Christmas tree she has ever seen. Born with cataracts on both eyes, she was blind until a week ago when operations and thick lenses glasses opened for her the multi-colored world of sight. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Garton, put the tree up overnight so Diane would have the full enjoyment of gay decorations and bright lights.
