Pictures taken of Tier B-3 inside Parish Prison show how a guard's field of view diminishes as he walks away from the far side of the tier (top) until he reaches his guard post (bottom) outside the tier. Some 45 prisoners were house in the tier Friday, but it was possible to see only those who were in their beds which are located out of sight to the right and to the left. Prison officials say many acts of violence occur at night in the area impossible for the guard to view from his post.
