18 Streetlights on Mardi Gras Boulevard in Algiers Point were lit up on Thursday night, June 29, 1995. The lights were put up by the Department of Development & Transportation over a three month period of time and were labeled " Algiers Newest and most Beautiful Gateway ". Special Guest included Councilman Troy Carter, Bonita Dalcour of the Algiers Riverview Association, John Williamson of the Algiers point association, Bob Harvey president, New Orleans Levee Board,Jim Niemeyer of the Algiers Economic Association.
