1957 Press Photo Melvin Bakkerud Confessed of His Crime

On August 3, strange encounter at City Prison of John Rexinger (L) handing a cigarette to Melvin Bakkerud, who confessed the sadistic torture-rape of a student nurse in Golden Gate Park. A crime for which Rexinger was held as a suspect for 10 days until Bakkerud admitted it and arrested on another charge, linked to the crime when police searched his roomand turned up a watch "similar" to the one taken from the victims escort.
